Number of intubated patients rises, while 12 more people die from virus

Greece’s new COVID-19 cases skyrocketed on Tuesday, with health authorities announcing 1,259 new infections, pushing the total to 32,752.

The figure is the highest toll the country has seen in a single day since the start of the pandemic in February.

Of the total number, 295 cases were found in the Attica region and 291 in Thessalonica, while 112 are linked to already known clusters and 62 were recorded at the country’s entry points.

The number of intubated patients also rose to 102, the highest so far, while 12 more people died, pushing the total number of deaths to 593.

Dr. Sotiris Tsiodras, an infectious disease expert, urged people to avoid crowds and gatherings and wear face masks at all times.

In a televised briefing, Tsiodras said that people’s choices are the most important factor in how the virus will progress in the country.

Meanwhile in a Tweet, Education Minister NIki Kerameus announced that she tested positive for the virus and has gone into isolation.
